Police say two Palm Bay brothers and an acquaintance charged earlier today with breaking into a bingo hall may also be linked to the overnight burglaries of a dog grooming shop and a day care center.

Rocky Redding, 19, and Timothy Redding, 20, were charged with burglary and grand theft after police were alerted to the burglary about 4 a.m. today at the Country Bingo Hall at 4430 Dixie Highway. Both were taken to the Brevard County Detention Center in Sharpes.
A 16-year-old, who is not being identified because of his age, was also charged with burglary and grand theft.
“These three may have been on a burglary spree,” said Yvonne Martinez, spokeswoman for Palm Bay Fire-Rescue.
The three suspects were taken into custody for questioning this morning shortly after an unidentified man in a nearby parked car called to report seeing suspicious activity at the bingo hall.
“It was good to hear that a concerned citizen got involved,” said Kenneth Morgan, a security officer at the business.
“From what I understand, a man was in a car across the street when he saw people walking around the building. Then he heard a noise.”
Patrol officers and a police dog arrived on the scene and spotted the suspects inside the building.
The suspects may have been searching for cash and lottery tickets, police said.
Two of the suspects saw police and surrendered while a third suspect led police on a chase into the Turkey Creek area. He was spotted by a patrol officer walking along the train trestle and gave up.
The three were taken to the Palm Bay Police Department for questioning.
A short time later police received reports of burglaries at a day care and a dog grooming business, both located in the 4500 block of U.S. 1.

Bingo fever begins at the Marco Y

Veteran bingo player Jan Martin was full of praise for bingo “caller” Fritzi Holmes.

“You do good girl … you are a good caller,” Martin told Holmes during a break in proceedings at the Y’s first bingo session of the season.

“She’s distinct, and she has good timing,” Martin said as Holmes engaged in a chat with the Y’s bingo organizer, Dottie Weiner.

About 35 players, including just one male, turned out for the session, which had payouts of between $25 and $40 per game.

Later, Weiner pointed to Martin and singled her out as one of the better players in the room.

“She’s good,” Weiner said. “She’s fast at reading numbers.”

“You learn to do that,” Martin explained. “I tape mine (sheets of numbers) down.”

Although some bingo games can be lucrative, the takings on this particular day were fairly modest because of the number of participants, Holmes said.

“Obviously, you can’t give out more than you take in,” she said.

Player Clare Gates said getting rich at bingo games isn’t the motivating factor for participating.

“It’s more about the camaraderie,” Gates said. “It’s relaxing. When you’ve had difficult things going on in your life, or had a stressful job, it’s a good way to relax.”

Organizer Weiner said setting up for bingo sessions requires two volunteers to help with pack sales.

The packs of numbered sheets, she said, are supplied by a Fort Lauderdale company, and the Y owns the Lotto-like machine that blows numbered balls around in a chamber and eventually traps them in a funnel for reading and calling.

Ham-Bingo Isn’t Your Grandma’s Bingo

Ham-bingo at Hamburger Mary‘s in downtown Orlando is not your average family friendly bingo night. In fact, it’s recommended to leave kids at home with the baby sitter because hosts Miss Sammy and Carol Lee turn bingo games every Tuesday into hilariously inappropriate shows. Their raunchy jokes, botched Broadway tune lyrics, and consistent harassment of attractive male latecomers are not meant for innocent ears.

Owner John Paonessa says he “loves hearing guests roar with laughter at Miss Sammy and Carol Lee’s jokes and banter, and then sing along to their show tunes. Bingo is fun with a capital F!”

The first bingo card for each patron is free. For those with a competitive spirit who want extra bingo cards, be sure to study up on Broadway and Golden Girlstrivia to win extra cards. Bingo winners can score some awesome swag such as gift certificates to Hamburger Mary’s or tickets to local shows.

Not only does Hamburger Mary’s deliver high-quality entertainment every Tuesday night, the food and drinks are pretty tasty. As the name suggest, hamburgers rule at this establishment. “Buffy … The Hamburger Slayer” is a sinfully delicious combination of a half-pound burger, red wine, garlic aioli and swiss cheese. Wash this burger down with one of Mary’s creatively named drinks such as the “Long Guy Land Iced Tea” or the “Zipper Ripper.” If you’re lucky enough to be at Hamburger Mary’s when the Amtrak train passes, there’s a good chance the bartender will offer up $4 shots.

To put a cherry on top of the evening’s festivities and food, the bill is served in a tiny cherry red patent leather pump.

Tuesdays at 6:30pm; Reservations are strongly advised.

Cosmic Bingo. Catch the wave!

Cosmic BingoCosmic Bingo is sweeping the nation! I came across Cosmic bingo when I posted about bingo coming back during these tough economic times.  (You can read the post here.) A hall was playing a session of Cosmic Bingo and it looked fun.  Black lights, glowing daubers, loud music and other exciting things were happening.  So I did a search on the internet and it looks like Cosmic Bingo is being played all across the nation! From Washington State, where it is being played at the Swinomish Casino (Their Facebook page is here) to Florida where it is being played at Seminole Casino Hollywood.

It is definitely NOT your Grandmother’s bingo game anymore!  I am glad to see the bingo industry trying new and innovative ideas to get more people to enjoy the game of bingo.  I have embedded a YouTube video of Cosmic Bingo at the Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota.  It gives you a little idea as to what goes on!  Have any of you played Cosmic Bingo?  What did you think of it?  Let us know in the comments!
